The concept was interesting, but I didn’t really love the execution. I wanted to know more about the world and the two factions, but the drip-feeding via excessively poetic prose was more annoying than anything. And I normally love beautiful lyrical prose. I also didn’t really believe the love story so didn’t feel much attachment to the characters, who didn’t have much going for them other than that. It was too short for what the authors were trying to achieve. It got better towards the end but still left me wondering if the authors just didn’t actually develop the world enough that they could give us more detail. It didn’t need to be sci-fi to tell the story that was told.
